Wedding wands are being used more and more for weddings; what a great way to send off the bride and groom rather than throwing rice at their heads! Not to mention that many venues do not allow birdseed, rice or sparklers any longer. These wedding wands are a great, inexpensive way to wave off the newly married couple.
Purchase satin ribbon from Pouchmart and make tons of wedding wands to match your wedding colors.
Items you will Need:
1. Satin ribbon (choose width size and color to your preference)
2. Wooden dowel
3. Glue or hot glue gun
4. Scissors
Instructions:
1. Cut strips of ribbon to about 15″ lengths
2. Apply glue like a wave (about an inch) to the back side of the ribbon
3. Wrap the glued end of ribbon onto dowel (be careful not to touch hot glue!)
4. Fold the free end of the ribbon in half
5. Snip a small piece of the ribbon at a 45 degree angle
6. Wave and enjoy
We also made a double strand wand. For this style of wand, follow the instructions below:
Double strand Instructions:
1. Cut ribbon at 15″ lengths
2. Lay out the shiny side of the ribbon face up
3. Glue a half inch straight line on wider ribbon
4. Place the thinner ribbon (right side face up) on top of glue
5. Wait for it to dry for a minute or two
6. Once dry, turn over the ribbons and apply glue about an inch like a wave
7. Wrap the glued end of the ribbon to the towel
8. You may or may not need to apply a little bit more glue between the two ribbons in the front
9. Fold each of the free ends in half
10. Cut ends at a 45 degree angle (Optional: You may cut the narrower ribbon at a shorter length)
As you can see in our photos, we’ve used picot ribbon and satin ribbon from Pouchmart.
Another version we made was to tie a knot at the of the dowels using two ribbons. You may want to apply a small amount of glue underneath the knot to keep the knot from sliding.
HOT TIPS:
- You can paint the wooden dowel any color you choose.
- You can add decorative flowers at the top or add bells for some ringing.
